Knighthawks clinch, Calgary teammates reach milestones

The Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Arizona Sting 14-12 at Penngrowth Saddledome on Saturday night to improve to 6-5 and maintain ground in the Western Division playoff race. Making the victory even sweeter, forwards Kaleb Toth and Tracey Kelusky both reached the 500 career point milestone in the win.Toth entered the game with 495 points career points and recorded two goals and four assists during the victory.
Kelusky came in with 497 points and was at 500 before the first period ended. Both players earned standing ovations from the Calgary faithful.
The win was the first career victory for Roughnecks new Head Coach Jeff Dowling.
The San Jose Stealth grabbed a pair of victories this weekend to improve their winning streak to five consecutive games. On Friday Gary Rosyski and Luke Wiles each contributed four points to lead San Jose to a 9-7 win over the Portland LumberJax in Portland. The loss was the tenth consecutive for the LumberJax.
"We're all looking around and wanting answers," LumberJax rookie forward Jed Prossner told Paul Buker of the Oregonian, "but we really don't have any."
The LumberJax have not won since Week Three of the regular season.
"It seems like it was two years ago," Head Coach Derek Keenan said in the Oregonian.
"We're pretty much out of the playoff picture now," Keenan continued. "We're basically playing for pride and for jobs next year."
The Stealth returned home on Saturday and defeated the Edmonton Rush 14-7. The Stealth (6-5) never trailed after opening the game with three consecutive power-play goals by Jeff Zywicki, Gary Rosyski and Colin Doyle. San Jose went 5 for 8 on the power play and scored six fourth-quarter goals.
The contest was the first of six consecutive road games for the Rush.
The Rochester Knighthawks clinched their 13th playoff berth in as many seasons with a 21-15 victory over the New York Titans on Saturday. The Knighthawks have never missed the playoffs in their existence.
Shawn Williams scored six goals, including four in a row in the fourth quarter to help the Knighthawks grab the victory. Rochester scored on nine of 11 man-up situations in a penalty-filled game that saw the teams rack up a combined 115 penalty minutes.
With the win Rochester extended their franchise-record winning streak to eight games
The Buffalo Bandits beat the Colorado Mammoth 19-15 in front of 15,156 fans at HSBC Arena Saturday night, handing Colorado just their second loss of the season. It was the sixth consecutive victory for the Bandits (8-4). The game included nine ties and five lead changes as Buffalo went on to grab their sixth straight victory.
"To beat a team like that proves to them that they're not the only team in this league," Bandits forward Kevin Dostie told Tom Borrelli of the Buffalo News. "Hopefully, we'll see them in the playoffs and can show them again that we're the better team."
John Tavares tied his career high with 13 points Saturday (seven goals and six assists) to take the NLL scoring lead from Rochester's John Grant. Tavares has 86 points (38 goals and 48 assists) in 12 games and Grant has 83 points (38 goals and 45 assists) in 11 games.
The Philadelphia Wings ended their four game losing streak by edging the Chicago Shamrox 12-11 at Wachovia Center in front of 12,132 fans in Philadelphia on Saturday night. A last-minute goal by rookie Kyle Fiat capped a long comeback as the Wings pulled out a 12-11 win.
The Wings had not held a lead in the game until the winning goal was scored. Goalie Matt Roik stopped all 10 Chicago shots in the fourth quarter.
The Chicago Shamrox bounced back from their Saturday night loss to Philadelphia and defeated the New York Titans, 12-8, at Sears Centre on Sunday afternoon. With the victory the Shamrox take the season series over their expansion cousins, 2-1. The game was tied, 6-6, at the half, but Chicago outscored the Titans 5-1 in the third quarter to take command of the game. Eight different players scored for Chicago, who broke a seven-game losing streak with the win. The victory keeps post-season hopes for the Shamrox alive with four games remaining in the regular season. The Titans fell to 2-11 with losses to both Rochester and Chicago this weekend.
On Friday the Toronto Rock snapped their four game losing streak with a 13-6 victory over the Minnesota Swarm at Xcel Energy Center. The Rock went on a 5-0 run in the second quarter, including three goals from Josh Sanderson, to take a 7-1 lead. Sanderson's power-play goal with 7:40 remaining in the first half would be the eventual game-winner.
