NLL GIRL OF THE WEEK - DORIS
Long Island native pursuing career in casting & directing
01/05/2009
With NLL Opening Night in the books, Doris, a native of Bethpage, NY, and her fellow members of 'The Sirens' Dance Team are looking forward to welcoming the New York Titans home, at their first-ever game at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Saturday. Doris, who is currently a Communications major at St. John's University, is a second-year member of the Sirens, but also just wrapped up her first season dancing for the New York Jets 'Flight Crew'. Her dance career has certainly taken a higher profile since a friend brought her to an audition two years ago."My friend asked me to audition with her for the Knicks City Dancers," said Doris. "I didn't really have high hopes going into that, there were around 500 girls there, but I've wanted to get involved with a dance team ever since."
Doris' previous experience as a cheerleader for the St. John's Red Storm wasn't enough to make the cut, but she beat out most of the 500 participants and was selected as a finalist. She did get her wish to dance at Madison Square Garden shortly thereafter, however, dancing on the green turf at Titans home games.
"It's just an awesome experience," she added. "I grew up around the game but was never really that interested in it until I got involved with the Titans. It's exciting, I didn't realize how rough it is. I'm really excited to come back this year."
While Doris has future aspirations to open her own dance studio on Long Island, she also expects to pursue a career in casting and directing. She recently completed an internship at VH1, casting for the reality TV show 'Daisy of Love'.
"Casting for reality is so much fun because you meet such crazy people," said Doris. "I'm very outgoing, so I feel like it's the perfect job for me."
Doris sacrifices her remaining free time doing charity work in the New York area. She most recently spent a full day at a charity Christmas Party thrown by the Marty Lyons Foundation for terminally ill children.
