Halifax improved to 3-4 on the season with a one-goal win over Vancouver on Beach Party night at Scotiabank Centre in front of 8,453 fans. Warren Hill, who has been shaky at times this season, started poorly, allowing four goals on the first six shots he faced before settling in. Halifax wasn’t leaving their tender out to dry, though, as they led 3-1 by the 11:27 mark of the first quarter, outshooting Vancouver 13-6.
Ryan Terefenko led the Thunderbirds with his first career hat trick, adding two assists for a five-point night. The transition specialist contributed on the back end, too, of course. With time winding down after Vancouver had closed the gap to one goal, Terefenko scooped up a loose ball off the faceoff to give his team an important possession late in the game. They also got a reset, leaving the Warriors with little time to find the equalizer.

“It was a team effort,” Terefenko told Maki Jenner after the game. “The belief is there with these guys. We know how good we can be when we’re all on the same page. In front of an awesome crowd, we played our tails off and got the win.”
After dropping their first three games of the season, the Thunderbirds are now winners of three of their last four. Vancouver is the toughest team they’ve beaten so far.
